Wired - We Are the Web
A great article in Wired captures exactly my own feelings about the web.

"The accretion of tiny marvels can numb us to the arrival of the stupendous.

Today, at any Net terminal, you can get: an amazing variety of music and video, an evolving encyclopedia, weather forecasts, help wanted ads, satellite images of anyplace on Earth, up-to-the-minute news from around the globe, tax forms, TV guides, road maps with driving directions, real-time stock quotes, telephone numbers, real estate listings with virtual walk-throughs, pictures of just about anything, sports scores, places to buy almost anything, records of political contributions, library catalogs, appliance manuals, live traffic reports, archives to major newspapers - all wrapped up in an interactive index that really works.

This view is spookily godlike. You can switch your gaze of a spot in the world from map to satellite to 3-D just by clicking. Recall the past? It's there. Or listen to the daily complaints and travails of almost anyone who blogs (and doesn't everyone?). I doubt angels have a better view of humanity.

  Weekend
Stayed in Leven for a Saturday for the first time in ages.

First stop was the East Fife V Raith match - EF lost 4-2 after fading badly in 2nd half but they look quite tidy this year. Need to be sharper in front of goals and cut out the individual errors.

The Polis were called to a move on fans protesting outside about the Board. Bang out of order by the p(r)oxy chairman - Boooooooooooooooooooo!

Funniest thing was the polisman that moved them on stood in dog sh** as he was going back to the police car. Doh!

Then out with Jamie to the Caley and the "Croon".
Was good to see so many people from "Skail" considering that's 10 years since I've left.

It's weird though that no one seems to go out till after 10.00?

We were in the Caley from around 9 and it was deid, but by 11.00 the place was jumping.

Left the "Croon" to go up the road at 12:30 and the Caley was still jumpin'. Folk must drink in the house and go out at the last minute now.

  Real World not James Bond
It just shows that this terror scare isn't the movies.

Sometimes bombs don't go off (Thank God)

Sometimes innocent people are killed by the Police :-(

The hum-drum banality of the lives of the terrorists is splashed over the News (He liked Fish & Chips and Football!) with reports of bombers going to an Outdoor Adventure centre to finalise plans to blow up the tube.

Hopefully the Security Services can trace this cell and it's backers.
Hopefully there isn't more on the way.

  Total Numpty
What an arse I made of myself this morning.

Got to the train station late as usual and was rushing to get a ticket.
As I was walking into the shelter bit where the ticket machine was I was looking up at the TV screen above it with the train times on it.

what happens?

I don't walk through the entrance to the shelter as expected, nope, I walk straight into the plexiglass side of the shelter!

*BOOOM*

Only thing that was hurt was my pride and at least it gave everyone in the station a laugh....

It always did say "Easily Distracted" on my old school reports though I suppose and........

Gala Fairydean 0 - East Fife 4
Beautiful sunny day to watch a game and lot of people were lounging on the grass terracing/banking watching this game instead of sitting in the stand.

Gala pressed EFFC hard for the first 20 minuted but lost two goals in two minutes and their heads went down.

The second East fife goal was a scorcher - freekick 25 yards out that got curled right into the top corner.

After this the Gala players seemed to let their heads go down and they seemed to retreat in themselves.

Second half started and East Fife were really impressive not relying on the long ball and both strikers having pace to burn.

The third goal was another shot from distance that was plinked past the keeper.
I actually missed the fourth goal as I was reading the program but it was scored with about 10 mins to go and Gala looked spineless. They really need a couple of bastards with a will to win in the team to frighten the opposition and they're own team mates.

East Fife did look pretty good though.

Went to see two pre-season friendlies over the weekend, Killie Vs So'ton and Gala Fairydean Vs East Fife.

Killie 2 : So'ton 3
Was surprised that Southampton put out such a strong squad, they had most of their big "guns" playing at one point or another - it might have even been Crouch's last game for them.

He got two goals but I'm not conviced that he's a good footballer - decent yeah, but good? nah

Dennis Wise was a dirty bastard as expected but the whole Southampton team seems to be that way, maybe it's what they need to get out of the English first division.

Killie were organised but uninspiring, So'ton scored early and were content to hold it. The game only really changed when Killie brought on a young winger who was giving the Southampton left back some problems. Also good was the left winger for Southampton, Theo something, 16 year old and looked a player.

The last ten mins were good with the two teams trading goals; 2-0, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2.
A big GIRUY for the Killie fans that left early and missed their second goal - whats the point of leaving with 3 mins to go? there must have only been 2000 people there max.

A nice bit of banter was when the scoreboard wasn't updated to show the second goal for So'ton.
The Southampton fans started singing "Scoreboard, Scoreboard, What the Score?"

  First run in ages
Since I did the Great Caledonian Run in May(1:03:15 - slow slow slow) I've done very little excercise.

I had two weeks off running after it, then two weeks holiday and since coming back I haven't picked it up again.

Until now

So to "break me back in" I did 2.3 miles in a slow time of 24 minutes.

Hopefully I can get better over the next few weeks & months.

  First Scotrail
Picture the scene:

Edinburgh in the sunshine, baking in a 25 degree heat and not a breath of wind in the air.

5:20 finish work and have a pleasant stroll to the station to get the 5:30 train to North Berwick.

5:29 Train to Edinburgh stops then departs at the platform where the North Berwick train should be

5:31 Train to Newcraighall stops then departs at the platform where the North Berwick train should be

5:33 Train to Edinburgh stops then departs at the platform where the North Berwick train should be

5:35 North Berwick Train is cancelled due to "adverse weather conditions"

So we get shunted to another platform where we have to wait for a train to Waverly.
We then have to wait there for 20 minutes in the sticky heat before a train turns up.

Finally get in the house at 6:40 almost an hour later than I should do.

It's not the first time that this type of thing has happened, I guess out of every ten journeys on that line there is a clusterfuck on at least two of them. So I'm either late for work or late to get home.

Thanks Scotrail, I think I'll take the car for a wee while.

  Nice Relaxing Weekend
Back to work tomorrow but what a nice relaxing weekend I had.

Was up early Saturday as K was working early but soon went back to bed only to re-emerge lunchtime sometime. Downloaded Google Earth and was gobsmacked by it, in 5 years time it will be even more stunning. nice quiet Saturday night and then off to Fife on Sunday.

Took my wee Gran to the church and then did a few chores for her. Had a nice meal with with Gran and Andy at the Coachman's Bistro in the Old Manor. It was superb as always, great food and friendly staff who always spoil my Gran(s).

Went up to see Gran F and Aunt J before heading back to the superb cheesy sounds of Ken's Ceilidh

So rested, refreshed and ready to go for another week. It's good to relax for a change :-)

  London Bombings
I love that image from We're Not Afraid

We'll probably be fighting this "war" till the oil runs out but the terrorists underestimate the resolve of the people of the "decadent" west. Londoners will just get on with things just as those in Madrid & New York did.

RIP to those killed and injured by the cowards :-(

  First Post
Well, it's about time I started a blogger, not that I'll have much to write about but....

Will be good to let people know what i've been up to.

  G8 Anarchists
These people are a disgrace.
They have no message and no real purpose except to cause trouble in a misguided belief that smashing up Stirling will bring down global capitalism.

It's just a form of football hooliganism for the middle and upper classes to "sow their wild oats" before finishing uni and going to work for Daddy's firm.

They undermine the whole effort of Make Poverty History by shifting the spotlight to their juvenile antics and utopian babble.

Why don't they go to Zimbabwe and protest against Mugabe? Or why not move to Somalia and experience real anarchy?

Nah, they'd rather be like Kevin the Teenager and kick against everything in a nice safe environment where the Police play by the very rules that the prostesters despise.
